About fifteen years ago, my Grandmother let me have a pair of Hollywood Regency chairs that she purchased in 1958. They were in her room when I was a child and I thought they were so fancy. She always dressed so posh, had matching bags, boots, and gloves, and looked like Lower Alabama's Alexis Carrington. I thought she was a movie star!
When she let me have the chairs, they had been used in several different rooms in different properties, and had been recovered a time or two. I rescued them and then held them hostage in my basement, waiting on the perfect project.
Finally I decided to give them their moment to shine again. I can't wait to see how long it takes Lenis to ask for her chairs back once she sees them. I am waiting for the big reveal when she comes to visit me in May.
I am working on a room for Decorators Show House that I am doing in metals. I decided to do a warm silver/ champagne gold on the chairs and found the most incredible, dreamy, rich, wonderful, Highland Court velvet for the chairs. The fabric is almost like a Mohair. It is straight up the most expensive velvet that I have ever used, but then again, only the best to go on Lenis chairs, right?
I am so thrilled with the before and after and cannot wait until Show House is over to put these in my house. I am working on the perfect spot for them. I hope this inspires you to repurpose something dull into something completely unexpected and if you don't have the vision, call me and I will help!
